Ordination and Consecration of Rabbi Anne Heath

April 23, 2007 -- May 10, 2007 marks a long awaited day for Cantor Anne Heath, for on that day she will be ordained Rabbi, completing 5 years of study at The Academy for Jewish Religion in New York. The future Rabbi Heath has served as the Rabbinic Intern and Spiritual Leader of Congregation Agudath Achim in Taunton, Massachusetts since June 2003.

The road to reach this day was very long, literally.  Cantor Heath has driven well over 140,000 miles traveling between The Academy for Jewish Religion in New York and Congregation Agudath Achim in Taunton, MA and home.  Each semester she spent Monday through Wednesday in New York City and Thursday through Saturday working and studying back home in Massachusetts.

Cantor Heath has always been a spiritual person, and after converting to Judaism she immediately began her studies toward becoming a Cantor. Upon achieving that goal in 2000 she decided to work towards becoming a rabbi as well. With many stops along the way, in 2002 she finally made the move, leaving Colorado to live with her sister in Needham, MA and to complete her application to rabbinical school.  Cantor Heath worked part-time in Swampscott, MA at Temple Beth El (now Congregation Shirat HaYam) for one year before moving to the south coast in June of 2003 when she accepted her position to lead the congregation in Taunton.  Now residing in Lakeville, MA, she previously lived 3 years in Providence, RI because of its close proximity to Taunton and for its easy interstate access for her weekly commute to school in New York City.

Congregation Agudath Achim will be hosting a special service to celebrate the consecration of Cantor Heath as the congregation’s new Rabbi on May 20, 2007 at 2:00pm.  The consecration will be held at Congregation Agudath Achim, 36 Winthrop Street, Taunton, MA.
